Understanding Facebook Comments and Your Control Over Them
Facebook comments are text responses you write on posts, photos, or videos shared by you, your friends, or public pages. When you post a comment, it becomes part of Facebook's platform and appears under whatever content you're responding to. Understanding what counts as "your" comment and what control you actually have over it is the first step toward managing your online presence on the platform.

Every comment you write is stored on Facebook's servers. Even if you remove it, Facebook maintains records for legal and operational purposes. However, you can control whether comments are visible to other users. This distinction matters because removal makes your comment invisible to the public, but doesn't erase it from Facebook's systems entirely.
Comments differ from direct messages or posts on your timeline. A comment always appears in relation to another piece of content—someone else's post, a page's photo, or a public event. This means your comment visibility depends partly on whether that original content remains visible. If a friend deletes their post, comments on it typically disappear as well.
Facebook's comment features include the ability to tag other users, react with emoji, and even edit comments after posting them. These features mean your comment history on the platform is more complex than simply writing and publishing text. You may have comments spread across dozens of different posts and pages, making bulk removal a challenge.
Takeaway: Start by recognizing that your Facebook comments are distributed across various posts and pages. Before removing comments, understand that deletion makes them invisible to others but doesn't completely erase them from Facebook's systems. You have more control over individual comments than you might realize.
Finding All Your Comments on Facebook
Before you can remove comments, you need to know where they are. Facebook doesn't offer a single view showing every comment you've ever written, which makes this task more involved than it might seem. However, there are several methods to locate your comments across the platform.

The most direct method is using Facebook's Activity Log. This feature shows your activity on the platform over time. To access it, go to your Facebook profile and look for the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right. Select "Settings and privacy," then "Settings." From there, find "Your information" and select "Access your information." You'll find an option for "Comments" in the list of your activity types. This view shows comments you've written, though it may take time to load if you've written many comments over the years.
Another approach is visiting the profiles or pages where you know you've commented frequently. Scroll through their posts and look for your name in the comments section. This method works well if you remember commenting on specific content or want to focus on removing comments from particular people's pages.
For posts on your own timeline or shared in your groups, you can review comments you've left by looking at your own posts. Visit your profile, scroll through your posts, and check which ones contain comments you've written. This shows comments you've contributed to discussions on content you created or that appeared in your feed.
You can also search for your own comments using Facebook's search bar. Try searching for text you remember writing or topics you commented on. This may help surface comments you otherwise wouldn't remember making.
Takeaway: Spend time mapping out where your comments exist on Facebook. Use the Activity Log as your main resource, but supplement this with manual searching through profiles and pages where you're an active commenter. Creating a list of high-priority locations will make the removal process more organized.
Removing Individual Comments You've Written
Once you've located a comment you want to remove, the actual deletion process is straightforward. Facebook provides built-in tools for managing your own comments without needing any external services or complicated workarounds.

To remove a single comment, locate it on the post or page where it appears. Hover your cursor over the comment (on a computer) or long-press it (on a mobile device). A menu should appear with several options. Look for the three-dot icon or menu button, which typically appears near your comment. Click or tap this icon to reveal your options, including "Delete" or a trash can icon.
Click the delete option, and Facebook will ask you to confirm the removal. Once confirmed, the comment disappears from public view immediately. The original post remains, but your comment no longer appears under it. Other users will not see your comment, though if someone replied directly to your comment, those replies may remain visible with an indication that the original comment was removed.
On mobile apps, the process is similar. Open the Facebook app, find your comment, and tap the three-dot menu icon. Select delete from the options presented. The comment vanishes from the post just as it would on a computer.
Important note: You can only remove comments you've written. You cannot remove someone else's comment from your own posts unless you use moderation tools or block the user. If you want to remove comments from your posts that others have written, you need to use different methods available in your post's comment moderation features.
Takeaway: Practice removing one comment to become comfortable with the process. Once you understand the steps, you can efficiently remove multiple comments. Set aside time to work through your list systematically, starting with the most important removals first.
Bulk Removal Strategies and Limitations
Facebook does not offer a built-in feature to remove all your comments at once. There is no "delete all comments" button or bulk action tool available through the standard platform interface. This means that if you want to remove a large number of comments, you'll need to delete them individually or use alternative approaches to manage them.

One strategy is to focus on removing comments from a specific time period or topic. Use your Activity Log to filter comments chronologically. You can work backward from recent comments, removing them in batches of ten or twenty at a time. This approach feels less overwhelming than trying to handle years of comments all at once.
Another strategy involves prioritizing which comments matter most. Ask yourself whether you need to remove every comment or just the ones that concern you most. Perhaps you only want to remove comments on sensitive topics, political discussions, or posts from a particular period in your life. Focusing your effort makes the task more realistic.
Some third-party tools claim to offer bulk Facebook comment deletion, but these often require you to grant them access to your account. Facebook's terms of service restrict what third parties can do with your account, and using such tools carries risks including account security issues or violations of Facebook's rules. The safest approach remains manual deletion through Facebook's official interface.
If you want to prevent future comments from accumulating, you can adjust your commenting behavior going forward. Be more selective about which posts you comment on, or limit your involvement in discussions that you might later regret participating in.
Takeaway: Accept that removing many comments requires time and patience. Create a manageable plan by focusing on high-priority comments first or grouping them by topic or time period. Set realistic expectations about how much time this will take, and work through it gradually rather than trying to remove everything in one session.
Managing Comments on Your Own Posts
While this guide focuses on removing comments you've written, understanding how to manage comments on your own posts is related and equally important for controlling your Facebook presence. When others comment on your posts, you have options for what to do with those comments.

You can hide comments on your own posts without deleting them entirely. This removes the comment from public view but preserves it in your records. To hide a comment, hover over it and click the three-dot menu, then select "Hide comment." The person who wrote the comment can still see it, but other users cannot. This is useful if a comment is inappropriate but you want to give the commenter a chance to delete it themselves.
You can also delete comments others have written on your posts. Click the three-dot menu on their comment and select "Delete." This removes it from your post entirely. You might do this if a comment is offensive, spammy, or off-topic. Deleting someone else's comment from your post does not remove it from their profile or activity history—it only removes it from your post.
Facebook's "Restrict" feature allows you to limit what someone can do on your posts without unfriending or blocking them. If you restrict someone, their comments go to a hidden section where only you can see them. This is less obvious than blocking and useful for managing difficult relationships or annoying commenters.
You can also turn off commenting entirely on specific posts. When creating a post or editing an existing one, you have
